The main types of packaging printing include five primary methods: letterpress printing, gravure printing, offset printing, flexographic printing, and screen printing.
Letterpress printing
The printing plate has raised image and text areas, which transfer ink onto the substrate via their protruding surfaces. It’s suitable for common packaging materials such as ordinary cardboard boxes and labels.
Rotogravure printing
The graphic and text areas are recessed, and ink is used to fill these recesses for printing—ideal for high-volume, high-quality applications such as plastic packaging bags and metal cans.
Offset Printing (Lithography)
Utilizing the oil-water separation principle, the printed and blank areas lie almost on the same plane, making it widely used in flat packaging materials such as paper boxes and labels.
Flexographic Printing
Using flexible printing plates, this solution is ideal for flexible packaging materials such as plastic films and corrugated paper, offering excellent wear resistance.
Screen printing
Images and text are formed by ink leakage through the mesh, making it ideal for printing on irregular surfaces—such as uniquely shaped packaging bottles or textiles—as well as for creating special visual effects.
